News from McGill School of Physical
and Occupational Therapy
I
t has been a busy few months at McGill’s School of Physical and
Occupational Therapy (SPOT). Since the last ACOTUP newslet-
ter, the professional masters’ students presented their research
projects, a couple of OT students did a placement in the North and
were filmed there, an adapted apartment has been unveiled and
McGill’s annual Homecoming was a great success.
McGill’s School of Physical and Occupational Therapy contin-
ues to flourish on its successes. There are now over 700 students (701
to be precise!) registered at the SPOT, in one of the 11 programs.
This remarkable milestone has a lot to do with the innovative and
progressive nature of education at McGill. Check out our school news
on the website at
or join the group on Facebook
(
McGill SPOT).
The master’s projects
presentations took place at the
end of August and saw 29
projects by the 122 occupa-
tional and physical therapy
students over the previous
nine months. The projects
covered the range from “Test-
retest reliability of the
SCAT2” to “Lived experience
of patients who participated in
sports as compared with those who did not.” After the project pre-
sentations, the students headed off for their final student placement
before finishing the program with a hard-earned MSc(A). Congratu-
lations to all!
OT students Leah Dolgoy and
Naajia Isa completed a student
placement in the North of Québec –
Mistissini to be precise. Please
check out the video of their experi-
ence. A faculty favorite segment is
when Naajia is “paddling” the canoe
with a client – check out his smile! It’s worth a thousand words. It is
inspiring to have two such bright lights in this crop of students.
Homecoming 2012 cele-
brated many classes, especially
the Class of 1957. It was also an
opportunity to unveil the plaque
commemorating a very special
donation to the School. The
Lambert family has donated the
equipment necessary to furnish
the adapted apartment which
will be named the Lambert
Suite. Completion of the
renovations is anticipated in the
spring of 2013.
