May 2014 was a busy time for ACOTUP members, as
many of them headed to Fredericton, New Brunswick
for the annual CAOT conference.
The week began with ACOTUP’s Annual General
Meeting, followed by their Board of Directors meet-
ing. A new president was elected, Susan Rappolt,
Ph.D., OT Reg. (Ont.), University of Toronto and a new
vice president, Lori Letts, Ph.D., OT Reg. (Ont.), Mc-
Master University, and Bernadette Nedelec, Ph.D.,
B.Sc. OT (C) erg.; who will remain on the Committee
for another year as the secretary/treasurer. Later in
the week, the ACOTUP Curriculum Coordinators had
an opportunity to meet and share their expertise and
ideas on common issues related to Canadian occupa-
tional therapy curricula. Additionally, the Committee
on University Fieldwork Education (CUFE) gathered,
and were joined by Erica Snippe-Juurakko, a member
of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Elizabeth
Steggles, the Professional Affairs Executive from
CAOT, and Carmen Kimoto, the Chair of the Canadian
Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist
Assistant Educators.
ACOTUP members were able to participate in the
ever popular Education Innovation Forum, in which
they presented, and watched presentations from
their colleagues on various curriculum based topics.
ACOTUP also hosted the second annual Speed
Mentoring session, which is gaining more interest
each year, and will return for its third session next year!
This event gives new research mentees an opportunity
to be paired with established research mentors, which
gives them one on one time to get advice, and
priceless insight into research in occupational therapy.
Plans for the 2015 conference has already begun, with
lots to look forward too when the conference moves
west to Winnipeg where the attendees will see
Human Rights as the trending theme.
