School of Occupational Therapy

The School of Occupational Therapy (the School; www.uwo.ca/fhs/ot/), in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS; www.uwo.ca/fhs) at Western University, invites emerging or established academic scholars to apply for a full-time Probationary (tenure-track) appointment in the area of occupational therapy and/or occupational science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

The School has a vibrant research culture with rich opportunities to collaborate across diverse fields and is one of the six schools in the progressive Faculty of Health Sciences (www.uwo.ca/fhs/ot/research/profiles.html). Weseek applications from scholars whose research program complements our existing research strengths identified in the FHS Strategic Research Plan (www.uwo.ca/fhs/research/files/strat_research_plan_2016.pdf) and the School's Strategic Plan (www.uwo.ca/fhs/ot/files/strat_plan.pdf). Preference will be given to candidates whose scholarship focuses on occupation-based research/integrated knowledge exchange in health and well-being, social inclusion, and/or social justices.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to take an active role in research, teaching and service. Responsibilities will include: establishing and maintaining an externally funded program of occupation-based research which relates to one of our three research pillars; teaching assigned courses in the School of Occupational Therapy, the FHS thesis-based graduate program in Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and/or the School of Health Studies; supervising graduate students (Master's and PhD) in FHS graduate programs; and, fulfilling administrative duties within the School, Faculty, and University.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and a degree from an entry to practice occupational therapy program and be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). Applicants will also show significant knowledge and demonstrated research excellence in the fields of occupational science/occupational therapy, enabling contributions to the School’s vision of mobilizing the transformative power of occupation. Additional consideration will be granted for an applicant with proficiency related to Canada’s Indigenous and/or marginalized populations. The anticipated start date of the appointments is July 1, 2021, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The accredited School of Occupational Therapy is recognized, nationally and internationally, for leadership in occupational therapy and occupational science. The School is committed to the development of occupational therapy as a science-driven, evidenced-informed, and occupation-focused academic discipline with an established masters (MScOT) entry-level professional program. The School has excellent teaching and research facilities as well as clinical and community facilities to support the development of occupational therapy. The School is a major contributor to the MSc and PhD programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. In partnership with the Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, the School of Occupational Therapy is the first Canadian program that provides an opportunity to pursue graduate education in Occupational Science and to obtain combined MScOT/PhD degrees.
